Question Is it safe to use Ratio Master in Germany without VPN enabled ?

    .

*Note: This question is related to Germany, so I expect answers only from persons, who live there:
    __

As far as I understand Ratio Master (including new Plus versions) does not mess with swarm, right?

So my IP-address does not appear in swarm – as a result I cannot be fined because of using Ratio Master (incl. Plus versions)

Is that correct ? Am I safe to use it with my original IP address ?
    __
Or am I missing something ?

RM+ responds to incoming peer connections with a choke message in the style of the client you chose to emulate, so the answer to both is no. You can opt out of this behavior by disallowing incoming traffic for the program in your firewall, but then you will (logically enough) show up as not connectable on your trackers.

Ok, I plan to move to Germany. I don't see VPN as a completely safe way of torrenting so I'm intended to use a Seedbox instead. But the torrents I download often are not main-stream and have zero leechers – so quite often there is no opportunity to seed them the proper way.

Since RM can also be tracked. Can I host RM+ (or old RM) on the server?

If yes - in your opinion - what is the best way to do it ?

Both have their ups and downs, but I suppose you've already evaluated the situation and picked the one that's best for your scenario.

What's the logic here? Torrents with zero leechers aren't very good for cheating, and having a seedbox makes you less likely to encounter ratio troubles in the first place.

I mean seedboxes do their job well for the films like "Dune 2" or another popular stuff.

If it's not 4k SDR... (my case)

Plus about ten last films I've downloaded had zero or near-zero leechers because of being not quite popular or aged. And at the same time not being freeleech.

E.g., for many years I wanted to watch a norwegian animated film called "In the Forest of Huckybucky" and just recently found it with eng-subtitles -- zero leechers.

Or "Babylon 5" DVD-collection which has tons of seeders and seemingly only me leeching it for the last few years...

So - due my peculiar tastes - seeding does not always work for earning ratio.

Though seedboxes will help with maintaining my seeding time to avoid hit&run situations on the private trackers. That's the purpose of using them in my case.

*Hence I'm interested in the safe way of maintaining my ratio while living in Germany.

    **like 100% safe.

That's the reason of my question.

Does that make sense for you now ?

To be 100% safe, you have to seed for real.

Furthermore, as a long term german private tracker user, I can say: There is no need for using fishy VPN services. Seeding with your default home connection is absolutely fine.

I mean 100% safe from fines. The threat of ban on trackers bothers me lesser.

Playing "russian roulette" is absolutely safe -- that say 5 players out of 6. While other one lays dead.

I don't want to be a roulette's dead player, so I prefer do not play "russian roulette" at all.

I opt to seed for real to help sharing - so I choose seedbox over debrid or port-blocking.

Though often due reasons described earlier it's not enough.

Hence I see seedbox + RM (hosted on a server outside of Germany) as a good solution.

And that's why I would like to know about best practices of hosting RM.

RM Developers' website looks like a perfect place to ask such kind of questions :)

I understand, but this still doesn't address the "torrents with zero leechers aren't very good for cheating" part. Anyway, RatioMaster Plus in a seedbox is doable... if you have one that runs Windows and offers RDP access, as it's a GUI application with no cross-platform builds (see https://www.sb-innovation.de/showthread.php?t=35781). Another idea is to install a proxy in your box, then configure RM+ to tunnel traffic through it and claim the same listen port as its torrent client.

But all of that feels like drowning in a glass of water and I recommend doing what everyone else does: using popular torrents to build a buffer that lets you afford downloading those which aren't, and taking advantage of bonus points (or other site rewards) to that same effect.

Bitteschön Good luck with the move, switching homes is already hectic, so I imagine also switching countries in the process would be even more fun!
