Free Download Manager 3.0 Build 870

    Free Download Manager 3.0

    Description:
What is Free Download Manager? It is a powerful, easy-to-use and absolutely free download accelerator and manager. Moreover, FDM is 100% safe, open-source software distributed under GPL license.

FDM accelerates downloads by splitting files into sections and then downloading them simultaneously. As a result download speed increases up to 600%, or even more! FDM can also resume broken downloads so you needn`t start downloading from the beginning after casual interruption.

Download video from video sites, such as Youtube, Google Video, etc. The video can then be saved in native .flv format or converted to one of more popular video formats.

FDM lets you download files and whole web sites from any remote server via HTTP, HTTPS and FTP.
You can also download files using BitTorrent protocol.

Just please be aware that it's all a matter of opinion. what works for one may or may not work for another. Personnally, I use dTa since I require only a few basics when downloading not an entire household of this 'n that to do a simple downloading job.
Besides, jovita is only mentioning what he caught on the internet.
I did actually try IDM at one point and I found it not too bad actually. I don't recall all of the bells and whistles that it had, but I suppose it wasn't too bad.

I think the reason why I gave up on it afterwards is because I personnally don't care to have a whole lot of programs come up at start up and I think that was the reason. The other time I recall having used IDM is when I used an alternate version of Win7 and I think that IDM came with it.

So afterwards, I returned to dTa. For me it's fast enough.
I wouldn't be surprised that FreeDownload Manager and IDM maybe share the same software engine and recognition scripts for downloading files of particular types.

But I am wondering that maybe a part of what you mention re: IDM being the best alternative is maybe b/c of advertising on IDM's behalf. They have made a good name for their software and I can't see a software like that going down the tubes any time soon. Some softwares are made to survive. ...kind of like trackers. Some live to make it for a long time and some die down pretty early. I suppose the same can be said of software too.

Besides FDM is 100% free and is lighter than IDM. I prefer FDM just because of this and its more stable, as for IDM I have seen how much time it takes to load the url. The part I hate the most is just so damn Time-Consuming it slower's the Web Browser.
