Windows 7 Will Boot In As Little As 11 Seconds?

For those of you who have tested the beta or the Windows 7 RTM code, this might not come as any surprise. For those of us whose production machines still run Windows XP (Ziff-Davis and Intel, among others) the improved performance of Microsoft's new operating system is a nice surprise.

One of those surprises was delivered Wednesday, when Microsoft paired a quad-core Intel Core i7 microprocessor with a solid-state-disc drive and what Ruston Panabaker, the principal program manager for strategic silicon partnering at Microsoft, called a generic build of Windows 7. Panabaker fired up the system, and presto! An 11-second boot time.

I can confirm this. Windows 7 (Windows 7 Professional German from MSDNAA) needs at least 15 seconds to boot completly on my system after a restart (Dell Studio XPS 16).
From Hiberantion I need 10 seconds to get to the desktop.

After hearing and reading about all the good news from you guys, I am sooooo glad I never bothered to purchase bloated Vista.

    Still have XP.....just like a regular die-hard.

For me, b/c I've got only a small amount of RAM, my XP starts from start to desktop in about 40 secs.
YOu guys put me to shame. :(

Don't worry... I have 1.5GB of RAM and XP takes like a minute or so to boot up. I don't mind waiting, though, but these news make me more anxious to upgrade to 7 (or to be more specific, eXPer1ence's modded version) once it's out.

yes. I agree with you. I remember you having told me about eXPer1ence's XP releases. They are actually really good. I like them too.

But I'm glad to hear that I"m not the only one suffering with the 'boot-up blues'.

I am also anxious to upgrade to 7.

The magic on this that new 'parallel computing' feature. Means that win7 allocates the computing on all the cores simutaneously in the booting sequence. Nice one M$ :)

Actually, XP boots faster than 7.

NOw that's smart for MS to do.
I wonder how they managed to do that, though.
I think that currently, if I were to use XP (correct me if I"m wrong, though), XP boots in an order to get to the eventual desktop.
